Favorite High School Memory:

I need to enter a disclaimer here as I did not graduate from York Community High School. This site would not let me proceed without checking the York box.
All of my classmates know I left Elmhurst in the summer before our senior year. Although I officially graduated from a North Miami High School, I align myself with York.
My favorite memories center around not only my classmates from York Community High School, but all of my long time friends and classmates from Lincoln Elementary and Elmhurst Jr. High as well.

What have you done since leaving high school?

After moving in 1959 to FL. with my family, I lived in No. Miami, FL; I got married; had two children; learned how life can present challenges which allow you to grow in character and strength, be grateful for family ties, give you the courage to tackle new experiences and achieve independance. I attended a community college in St. Peterburg, FL.; acquired an associate degree in Physical Therapy allowing me to support my two children as a divorced mom. I married again in 1980 to a career service member with the United States Air Force. We were assigned to Ramstein Air Base in Germany for 3 yrs., came back to the states in '84 to McGuire Air Base for 1 1/2yrs., then to Washington, DC were my husband was assigned to the Pentagon in charge of Air Force Claims worldwide. I continued to work in Physical Therapy; moved back to FL. after my husband's retirement from the Air Force to continue working in a hospital finishing my tenure for a FL. State Retirement. We then moved to MN where my daughter, son-in-law and two of our grandchildren lived to try our hand at restaurant ownership (as it turned out not a good choice) not moving to be near family, just the restaurant thing.
Don't let anyone say small time living is all it is cracked up to be. Give me a big city any day.

Current Interests:

I volunteer for a non-profit community run program helping elders remain in their homes so they will not have to go into nursing homes, supplying transport to doctor appointments and the like. I am a member of the Lions. I enjoy doing geneological research on our family lineages using the computer extensively to collect information. Doing this sort of research gives me comfort that we live in the time we do and not in the 1800's or even the early 1900's. I don't take our lives for granted and have become more appreciative of what we have.

Middle Name or Initial:

Most Memorable Experience Since High School:

The experience of attending college and achieving what I had not envisioned in high school.
Having a true gentleman as a husband for the
last 33yrs. and having two grown children who have become responsible adults and good parents.

One Thing I Have Done Since High School That Would Surprise My Classmates:

I have no clue what my classmates would be surprised about concerning my life's story. But, if they suspected there was an ascertive person
under the surface, they were correct. Not a bully, just someone who will not be pushed around.

Things That I Haven’t Done as of 2011, But Would Still Like To Do. Record when you do them plus comments.

I would like to travel more outside the boundaries of our country.

Other Comments:

In 2013, I lost my hero, friend and companion, my husband died on 13 Dec. 2013. I, like others of you who have become widowed, am trying to coup with his absence in my world. Some days I am a weeping willow and others composed.

I like Bill Wendt vividly remember attending school at Lincoln

Elementary with him, Don, Connie, Barbara, Craig, Colin, Bareba K.,

Janet,  and so many others .  What a wonderful time in our lives.

All of us even back then knew we were classmates of a class act in Don.

He was an honorable and generous gentleman.  I feel extremely fortunate

to count Don as my friend and will miss this genuine classmate!

    Affectionately,  Karen Keller Cates
